Hotchkiss were French armament manufacturers who built a factory in Gosford Street during World War 1 because one of their French factories was in danger of being captured by the advancing German army. After the war the factory produced engines for Morris Motors and was subsequently bought out by them to become Morris Engines. The original factory was much extended and is of course still there today as part of the university. |

The David Rumsey Historic Map Collection at Stanford University is available to be searched on line with maps from all over the world.
Coventry gives 1913 hits, but this includes the Coventrys in the USA and various Coventry streets.
Maps include:-
1941 Luftwaffe target map.
John Ogilby 1600's Strip Maps of Main routes.
1899 OS Maps
Maps can saved by clicking the right mouse button.
