Who out there remembers the Coventry Amateurs Football Club that used to be at Kirby Corner (near where the Varsity pub is now)?

Hi Mick. Coventry Amateurs became Coventry Sporting Club before disbanding in the 1990s, I believe.
Never saw them play, but went several times to Corners Nightclub in their clubhouse.

Hi Belushi, I had completely forgotten about Corners. Their clubhouse was on stilts (if I remember correct), been there many times.

Played at KC a number of times, nice pitch, nice clubhouse.
Cov Amateurs (renamed Coventry Sporting) reached the 2nd round proper of the FA Cup in 75/6 season going out to The Posh 0-4 at Highfield Road after beating Tranmere Rovers 2-0 in the 1st round proper, again at HR.

The record attendance at their Kirby Corner Road ground was 302.

Not sure of the years, but one guy I can remember playing for the Amateurs / Sporting was Tony Dunk.
I also remember that the secretary of the club was called George, who had a false left arm, he also worked in the accounts office at Wickman in Banner Lane.

I was at the games where Coventry Sporting played at Highfield Road and I remember Tony Dunk being their stand out player. When did Coventry Sporting cease to exist?
