Anyone remember Hey Machine Tools who were in Lythalls Lane (by the railway bridge)
They made gear tooth rounding machines. As an apprentice at Wickmans, we had 2 of these machines, and when operating them, the swarf came off like needles.

Self Changing Gears was situated at the rear of the Hey Machine Tools factory on Lythalls Lane. I worked at Hey during the 1970's and 80's. I think Hey is still going, just about, but SCG closed down long ago if I remember correctly.

According to Companies house they are still trading at Lythalls Lane. The site looked intact but quiet last time I walked past (but that was a year ago).
An Urban Explorer has visited the site.

	Certainly do.
My dad worked at Self Change until he passed in '85, and, as a kid I used to join mum and dad at the works club on a Saturday evening. The approach road to the works and the club ran down the side of the Hey works.
