More 'Gold' from Steve Foster on FB. This time he was fitting curtains inside the old BT Tower - now the Ramada Hotel. Its a super rare capture of that old Subway! And also a great view of the old Butts Cycle track still intact before the Rugby ground moved back.

Hope Street looking south - you can see the Technical college at the end on the Butts and can really see the state these old rows were in -

This one is courtesy of those new uploads to 'The Coventry Graphic' via the British Newspaper Archive.
It contains some really excellent photographs of members of 1st Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers during their time in the area, billeted there after their arrival from India and prior to their departure for Gallipoli.
Image: "Coventry's Military Guests. The Munster Fusiliers in their Indian uniforms, preparing to proceed to their billets on Monday." 'The Coventry Graphic,' 15th January 1915.
I think the photo is taken in Gordon Street looking North. That's Butts behind (Butts Road today) with the junction in to Thomas Street going away.
You can just see the sign for Butts Post Office on the very right -
It coincidentally matches this new David Fry one on CD with the same buildings showing behind looking North up Thomas Street itself -

It was indeed. IIRC, it was later renamed "the Fob Watch". Like many pubs, it's all boarded up now. Or has it been demolished since I last drove past? |

I like Dave Fry's postcard on the Pub link of the rebuilt Pub. Do we know when that was? It's still there and boarded up, Slim. Shame, as I would've thought they would do a good trade off the Cov Rugger these days. |

Neil, methinks there will be no pubs of long standing, meaning none that we can all remember.
All we will see is patrons standing at tall round tables in the bars aiming directly for the younger sets, jiggling their hips while they drink. And before Helen says anything - No Helen, you stick to your quiet corners and don't be home late.
That little red bomb of yours is probably waiting out there for you. |

No, it was not the ST, it was further along than that towards town. I seem to recall it had a Union Jack frontage. This was before any redevelopment.Nicholson

Hi lolipop, a year and a rough position on a map might trigger some memory? eg there was a pub called the Union Arms but it was a long time ago. |

Just an "out of the box" thought.... could it be possible that you're referring to the pub opposite the annexe for the Butts college, in Butts Lane, the Hen and Chickens?Question |
