At the corner of Swan Lane and Burlington Road is this "ghost ad"
Most of it is legible, but the important bits (name and date) aren't
Anyone remember it (it's close to Freddie Birds!)

Cheers

Thanks to Rob and to Dean Nelson for their help
This has now been found to be W Hamson
The legend at the top of the building refers to Hamson's address : 324 Swan Lane
Cheers !

The building in original picture on the corner of Burlington Road used to be a newsagents/sweet shop, if you look closely of google maps you can see the bottom half is newer brickwork. I was born in Burlington Road in the late 50's and I used to buy my sweets here on my way to school.

After playing with colours etc. in photoshop I reckon I have picked out most of the letters which are still readable.

Hi Greg - isn't it annoying
I've done the same in the past, and just had another look
It appears to me that the important part - the name - has been painted on at least twice - if you look at the far right, there's clearly an S but next to it, in different type, is another, less clear, S from a previous painting
The start of the name is virtually illegible, but I think it could end in UNDERS - I've look for Saunders but with no luck
The words across the bottom are SIMULATOR MANUFACTURERS, and above that is . . . . . SPECIALISTS
Thanks for your efforts, much appreciated!

Just to put the cat among the pigeons. To me it looks like Accumulator Manufacturer which would tie in with the car lighting. The A is right near the end of the wall.

Hi scrutiny. I have been watching the progress of this, and after studying it personally I am pretty sure it says "IGNITION SPECIALISTS". What is your opinion?

I think you're probably correct, having had another peek at it

Thanks for that Norm - it almost certainly does say that

I think you are right about Ignition Norm. Each time you look you can see something different. In the Grace's guide I can find no manufacturer 1912-13 for that kind of electrical work in Lower Ford St. I am almost sure that shop or the one next to it used to sell art work or similar in the late 50s/early 60s.
