Of course it is. I can see that now. Thanks for that MR, and the 1960 picture. Cheers

Wouldn't the timber framed building still have been visible in the first photo?

I think it is Tony, it's just the 1960's photo is taken from a lot further forward.

Ahh, I really should have known better! Blush The wider angle lens used at the time also gives a different perspective to the "size" of the spires. Thanks for spotting that Neil! Thumbs up

As an addendum just stumbled across this photo circa '70's looking the other way along Little Park Street from the Cathedral Spire - apologies if this is owned by anyone here but it appeared under a Google Image search. Pre Law Courts.

I think that's a prewar photo, part of the clearances between the wars. The old building was dismantled, rebuilt and then dimsantled again later, rebuilt at Spon End. It certainly would not have stayed had this been a bomb site. If you look carefully it's very tidy rubble, and the roadway is intact.

If the major bombing was towards the end of 1940, then by, say, 1943, the area could well have been "tidied up" and appeared as in the photo Just a thought Wink

Hi, Does anyone know where the Roebuck/White Rose Inn was on Little Park Street? Also called the Yorkist meeting house. There are three pictures on Pictures of Coventry, c04898, c01894 and c01897. The last picture is from the back after damage and you can see the building opposite in part but I haven't found any buildings to match it. I'm not even sure which side of the road it was or roughly which end. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dutchman, Wave your pictures have been outstanding! I'm playing Coventry street jigsaw and your posts have filled in loads of blanks already. Yeah, my gut feeling was that the Roebuck was in that area but looking at this painting, it doesn't quite fit the buildings on the right. Little Park Street This scene is almost at St John's Street and then the girls Reform school so I'm not sure there were many buildings it could be. LPS as far as St John street Since I don't know exactly what was opposite I haven't been able to find a building with the right roofline, though I have a much zoomed aerial photo that could show something similar.
