Hi all,
The one time tram depot, is now the community centre.
I might use a back scene to hide the mirror stand.

Well Philip, if you pardon me for saying, it's high time you built one then, although I haven't seen many pooches around your village. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The new gas works taking shape.
It's way over sized, but a difficult site as it houses the fiddle yard mirror.

My comment that the gasometer is far too large just doesn't stack up. It's certainly massive compared to the "accurate" kits costing up to £40.
The diameter of mine is 152mm, which in real life equates to nearly 40Ft. The towers adjacent to the gas works in the centre of Coventry were huge. They were huge. The tall Foleshill gasometer could be seen from the Dassett Hills, forty miles away.

Well my Lords Ladies & members of the jury,
Quote from Wikipedia.
"A gas holder or gasholder, also known as a gasometer, is a large container in which natural gas or town gas (coal gas or formerly also water gas) is stored near atmospheric pressure at ambient temperatures. The volume of the container follows the quantity of stored gas, with pressure coming from the weight of a movable cap. Typical volumes for large gas holders are about 50,000 cubic metres (1,800,000 cu ft), with 60-metre-diameter (200 ft) structures."
That info has now enthused me to continue with fine detailing of my perfect to scale gas holder. Which according to that info is on the small size of holders.
I can't do anymore to my model in until I have both the plate & angle irons, along with the ladders a walkways.
I rest my case melord. |

I'm so used to picking up stuff that says authentic, whether it's Cornish pasties or gas holders kits.
I'm in conversation with a gasometer enthusiast, who is helping me. I do like stuff to look right on our railway. I'm in effect dressing up the mirror stand, which I cannot live without, so it might be the only gas holder with a mirror on the top.
Thank you for your picture Anne. |

This is a ready to buy model. Looks really good until we see the bike rack is nearly as long as the diameter of the holder.
