Thanks for that Derrickarthur.
My husband spent some time during his apprenticeship there and then to somewhere on Holbrook Lane.
More lovely memories. I am so spoilt on this Forum.

Wasn't sure where to put this one as there is no dedicated Alma Street thread, but the BTH works was formerly Dunlop.

Thanks for the pictures Derrick. I was an apprentice at the Dunlop from 1981-1988 (longer than the usual 4 years, as I went on to Coventry Poly). I remember you from a rotation in the lab , maybe 84/85. I mounted lots of cross-sections in bakelite and read all the Desmond Bagley novels. Good memories. I emigrated to the USA in 1993.

Doesn't anyone recognise anyone on the Dunlop Bedstead race photos? I was hoping for some results from ex Dunlop apprentices.

Left to right Bill Vincent, Driver John Burnell, Pushing Ron Steele, Runner right Mick Smith. This was when it was run at Mallory Park. Cannot rember the year. The first race was from London to Coventry via A5 !

Back in the day, a colleague (long since retired) was parked up there one afternoon, waiting to give his wife a lift home. She worked at one of the GEC factories. Whilst he was in his car, a woman walked over the road and tapped his window. "I wonder what she wants", he thought. "Maybe she needs help."
He wound the window down, and the woman said "Business, love?". She did not specify what type of business was to be transacted, but I think he had a good idea. He maintained that he was furious.

I had a similar experience back in the 1980s when I worked at Sidney Stringer School. I always parked my car in Vine Street, and one day on leaving I was approached by a lady asking me if I could drive her to Walsgrave. I explained that I lived in Eastern Green on the other side of Coventry. She smiled and said, "That's close enough". As a geography teacher I was appalled at her lack of geographical awareness.
