Hi All Wave Think for whatever reason, although the owner had the best of intentions, I don't think 'Video World' (Daventry Road) is reopening as planned (as it was supposed to be re-opening summer 2024). Hope everyone's well ❤️

Does anyone remember Earlsdon Video Store on Providence Street? Or have any old photos? I remember the big red rental boxes Smile Had some great titles I remember renting Superman 2, 3 & 4 (they never had the first film) and Indiana Jones (don't think they had Raiders of the Lost Ark) Great shop.

I never visited the Providence Street video rental store but I just found a credit card receipt dated 13/02/98 10:44 for the Blockbuster store on Hinckley Road, Walsgrave that I used to frequent. Store number 60063 phone number 0203 604253. I don't know what I watched but it cost me £8.00. There's a photo here.

Very sad to say that Ron Bridgeman of Daventry Road's 'Video World' has passed away. Last time I spoke to Ron, on the phone, was March of last year (when he seemed confident about reopening the shop, sadly this never came to fruition). Ron was a great guy to speak to and always made time to have a nice chat. He was also an expert in films and had amazing knowledge of movies and cast. Walking into his shop was like stepping back into a nostalgic, treasured time of VHS and CRT TV's. He even gave me his old 1990's video rental records of Video Rental shops in and around Coventry, which I still have. My thoughts are with his Family and Friends at this sad time. He'll be missed 💙 Ron (Left) and his Brother, Graham, (Right) in 1987, outside their shop on Daventry Road. There is a memory by Larry Watson about Ron online, I'll share it below:
Memories of Ron Bridgeman My Memories of Ron Bridgeman by Larry Watson: One of the longest serving shop owners in the area, Ron Bridgeman died recently. He was always a popular figure in his shop, Video World, which had been open for 50 plus years. It closed when Covid struck in 2020 and never reopened. His brother, Roy who also worked in the shop had died a few years earlier. I first met Ron in 1971 when I bought a house in Green Lane and over the years we became good friends. Ron was born in Cardiff. When he first came to Coventry he ran a number of menswear shops over the years before starting Video World in the late 1960's. He was an expert on Country music and I went with him to many concerts. He was really the last video shop in the town and his range of films was beyond any other shop. Ron loved the public and he was very good in remembering his customer's tastes in films. It's fair to say that he was a victim of Covid and the DVD rental business had been outgrown by technology. He served the area well for over 50 years and was a popular person with his knowledge and we will not see his like again. End of an era, RIP Ron.

A few days ago I was contacted by New Forum Member, Adam98uk, who is a collector of VHS and Movie Posters and he messaged to say he'd just acquired Ron's (Ron Bridgeman of Video World, Cheylesmore) vast VHS and movie poster collection. The collection is amazingly extensive, I had no idea Ron had collected so much. He very kindly sent me some photos of the collection and also some of the paperwork from the shops (Ron's own store- Video World and also Dean's Videos & Finham Newsagents which Ron had collected). Various membership cards Video tape insert covers and sign up sheets A tiny proportion of the Movie Posters (way too many to share) Just wanted to say a MASSIVE Thanks to Adam for messaging me and sharing these with us, it's much appreciated mate Thumbs up << Also as an aside, Adam was wondering if anyone knew anything about Dean's Videos Store (6 Wheelwright Lane, Coventry and Previously 25- 27 Princethorpe Way, Ernesford Grange, Coventry)??? >>

6 Wheelright Lane is in the row of shops at the junction of Hen Lane and Wheelright Lane, probably next door to Cutting Crew hairdressers.
