It was situated between Broadgate and New Buildings but was demolished to make way for Trinity Street.

Thanks Dutchman, I had it in the right place, but on closer inspection of the photo I have realised that what I thought was a roof top of Butcher Row turns out to be a flower bed!

Not seen this one before - a very late view of Butcher Row in 1935 apparently - cannot be long before demolition but the buildings look salvageable in today's light to me? Why-o-why could I not have been able to have explored it Sad The fish looks tasty! Big grin Again - looks like a Film Set!

Am I right in thinking the row on the right is roughly where today's flowerbeds are in front of Holy Trinity?

Alternative view of pole next to A W Garlick My first thought was it was a telephone or telegraph pole, if there was a post office in the vicinity, but it might be an electricity pole and might never have been connected because the street was demolished not long after electricity was rolled out. You can see the things the wires would have connected to on a few of the buildings in Neil's photo.

It looks like a telegraph pole to me? The early ones were unusually tall and heavy.

Going back to your old pic. again, and above the man at the fishmonger shop there is a sign - 24 something or other. I would make a guess but I hate making an ass of myself. Your eyes may pick it up. I didn't notice it before, is it the name of the street? Wave

NeilsYard. Did you notice the pole is not there on MRs photo? I wonder what the difference in years were between the two Thumbs up

Oooh and I like this one! Pre-demolition sale so again must be 1935/36?

Here's that telegraph pole again from further down. It was quite a height!

Still unpacking boxes after our move - a box containing some of my late mother's "valuables" included this item - it's a photograph of (some kind of) artwork, and it's signed on the back "Ian Barnett 1953" Looking towards Butcher Row, with Bull Ring in the foreground Clearly shows "Fishy Moore's" to the left Thumbs up

Nice pictures everybody. MR, that's quite a different rendition of a familiar scene. I wonder if it was solely based on photos and imagination or if there was some personal memories included.
