This picture is in The Graphic dated 28th May 1914 and the caption says, Site for the Globe Picture Theatre (Branch of the Crown, Gosford Street). Other articles then say that the Globe is in Primrose Hill Street ?
In April 1914 ejection orders were issued against the residents of 53, 54, 55, 56 and 57 Primrose Hill Street which were wanted for the erection of the Globe Picture House. When the demolition was taking place building workers were on strike but about 17 workers were given jobs to carry out the demolition but they had to pay 1s per day to the strike fund.

Don't worry Helen, I noted it down to start with the closing bracket after "branch of the Crown" and it gives a whole different meaning to the sentence ! It would have meant the site was in Gosford Street!

One from 1951. A view up Vernon Street from the end of Yardley Street with Brook Street crossing left to right. The building in the distance on Berry Street, or one very like it, still exists here.

I love this photo. I was born in '48 so this was probably before my time. The Palladium on the left was across the top of Wellington street on the right, where I spent a lot of my time up until I was 6 or 7. I even got tossed out of the kids matinee once for making too much noise. Moi! Plus, those huge cob loaves from Wimbush were delicious.
