These photographs were taken in the 1960's and 1970's and mainly of the city centre. 1. The Burges in 1970, looking towards Bishop St. 2. This shows the back of the Burges, 1970. 3. I have called this shot, Industrial building or warehouse, in Whitefriars Lane, Whitefriars Street. Taken 1968. 4. Cheylesmore Manor gatehouse, inside view. Restoration of medieval timbers taking place. 1968 5. Cheylesmore Manor gatehouse, front view during overhaul of medieval timbers. 1968 6. Rear view of a Much Park St. house during restoration prior to removal to Spon Street, I cannot say with certainty which house this is; more research may solve this question. 1969. 7. Cast iron drinking fountain, probably 19th century, at Radford, Coventry. Is this item still in place. Photo 1977-78. 8. Cast iron boundary post or marker, LNWR, at Spon End viaduct. Is this item still in situ. Photo date 1976. 9. View of Ford's Hospital, Coventry, taken during renovation work on the medieval buildings. 1969. 10. I worked for the City Engineers, Land Survey section for a couple years, after leaving my job as a maintenance plumber at Hawker Siddeley, Bitteswell. Our first office was in the old gas showrooms building in Corporation Street, but then we moved to Broadgate House. I took this picture from the office window. It shows the old and new cathedrals, Holy Trinity church and other buildings, including the library on the left hand side. The temporary shops on the opposite side of Broadgate are also just visible. Date 1972-73. 11. Christchurch spire during renovation work. Photo 1969.

Love picture #10 - the view is beautiful (ignoring the Lanch hall of residence excrescence) and the brightness of the photo matches my memories, where it always seems to be sunny regardless of of whether the event remembered was pleasant or not.

It has to be Nos 8-10 as that was the only three-storey timber-frame to be moved to Spon Street (now Nos 163-165, Frank Harvey Hi-Fi).

Thanks for that Dutchman - you are right, and the only three-storey timber frame to be moved.

I'm pleased you liked image 10, just an opportunist shot, but the day was ideal for photography and I had a slightly higher viewpoint than normal!

Greyfriars Spire before its cladding was removed. Cheylesmore Manor House Gatehouse before its conversion to the Register Office. The roof of the Manor House itself can be seen in the background.

Two more smashing photos TSP. I'm guessing that for the first photo you were on Little Park Street looking NW, and just in front of Greyfriars spire is the back of the Hare and Squirrel on the corner of Cow Lane. The manor would have been just to the left of the shot. If I'm right about the position, the wall running across the shot belonged to Banner House and the scrub is what's left of was once a substantial garden. Unlike the plot of Bridgeman's it didn't vanish under a factory.

Interesting to see so many men wearing jackets & ties, presumably office workers out for lunch, that said, jeans didn't really become 'fashionable' until a few years later, so in 1962 trousers were 'de rigueur' Smile
