Can anyone help with info please? 478 Stoney Stanton Road, Foleshill. Bombed in 1939 and compulsorily purchased by Council for either a police station or the health centre. Ownership possibly Barr, but could have been Dave Randle, my uncle. Dave owned a farm at Corley and was the superintendent of the market hall. I was born Barr and lived at Radford, but moved away when I was six. I would like to find out if anyone has any memories of the place to add to my tree. Many thanks

Amyship ~ your enquiry regarding 478 Stoney Stanton Road. I can confirm that the Council bought the site from J. Barr on 18th August 1960. I also noticed that a number of the adjoining properties [or sites] were bought from the Co-op.

I am looking for information about a cafe/dining room/restaurant in Stoney Stanton Road c1905 - 1911 My husband's great great grandfather, Charles Garside, died at 305 Stoney Stanton Road in 1911. He was 68. He had moved there in 1905 when he married his 2nd wife Marjorie. They had 2 babies but both died in infancy. I have been told by a relative of this 2nd wife that they ran a cafe of some kind in Stoney Stanton Road but he knew no more about it. Charles had been a Mechanical Engineer for most of his working life. I have been amazed by responses to my questions on this forum so can anyone help me out this time by telling more about this cafe? Many thanks.

Hello MR. Funny question that, no 65 is on the corner of Harnall Lane, was that the Bon-Bon? So 59 must be the town side of Harnall Lane. Sorry, considering I was up and down there like a yo-yo, I cannot remember what was there! Sad

The Gloucester Arms was at No 57 so No 59 was either part of the same building or one door up from there.

The Gloucester Arms was between Harnall Lane and town, can picture it now but except for a few houses, that's the best I can do. Les

The first house I lived in was in Cromwell Street and my maternal grandparents lived in Silverton Road, which is in the most inaptly named area of "Paradise". Does the name come from the biblical "Eden" Street or are there any other reasons to call it Paradise?

Does anyone know why the buildings in Stoney Stanton Road are numbered the opposite way round to most streets? Generally if you go down a street from the start the odd numbers increase on your left and the even ones on your right. The opposite is the case with Stoney Stanton Road and offhand I cannot think of any other streets like this (though doubtless there are).

Allesley Old Road is numbered the same way. I know this was renumbered at some time in the 19th century so that might have something to do with it?

There are quite a few streets like this, Lower Ford St, Alma St. Just having a look around it is a bit of a minefield. A lot of houses back onto another street so that street really does not exist. Have a look at Canterbury St, all the houses only back onto it. Amusing, as I drove for a living for a short spell, taught me a lot. Lanes on the outskirts leading off roads, roads lead in, streets further in. Name of the road opposite ends (Bedworth Rd in Coventry, Coventry Rd in Bedworth). Just a piece of useless information, sorry, does not answer your question, no idea. Oh my
