I'm pretty sure it was Davis's - on the righthand side as you walked away from the birdcage.
Davis's was down past the Locarno towards Allied Carpets. They had a chess board built into the slabs outside their shop, with large wooden pieces for hire. I remember them as the only people who sold catapult elastic in town?

Roy used to go the elecronics in a little passage to the left at the far end. So small if there were more than 2 people you had to queue outside.

Hello,
Brilliant electronics stuff from there. Most of my railway miniature jack plugs came from there, a fraction of the price anywhere else. Early diodes for our dying diode fiddle yard operation that works twenty five years on.
Showing off now, but the most catastrophic events with model railways is either a loco running off a lifting section, or a train going full pelt into a dead end. Our current railway has ten dead end fiddle yards but happily no lifting sections. So the dying diode stops the current once the loco has run into that section, then requires the controller to return the controller to zero, then to apply a fresh surge. It only operates in one direction. Coming out of the dead end is just normal.

It had two ownerships that I remember. The Oriental Star was one name, whilst I'm scratching my head for the other. It might have been Midland Star.
Welcome from me too.
If I stay up much longer I will be turning into a star cluster, so I will say night night.
Last one, please put the lights out.

Hi all, just catching up all the missed Topics with Jetlag !
In the early to Mid-1970's, the Restaurant opposite the 'Climax' was 'Nello's' named after the Owner. It was primarily Italian with front of house Head Waiter Maro, but he turned the Upper floor into a mini late night Disco offering Basket Meals. He was tragically drowned whilst on Holiday in the Bahamas, (or somewhere suchlike), and his English born Wife sold the Business in the late 70's IIRC
