It's fair to say that pubs, dancing and concerts were never really my thing.
That said, I did go see the Small Faces in a one-off ever visit to the Matrix hall in 1966.
I did see long John Baldry in a one-off ever visit to the Jazz Club in the Leofric.
I also think I got to see the Kinks at Birmingham Ice Rink on what would have been a Wickman skating night coach trip?
I did play guitar in a local 'group' (who didn't in those days?) and we got to play a one-off ever gig at the Locarno and come round on the revolving stage.
Other than that it was mostly playing the working mens' clubs of Coventry and Leicester.
I remember playing, I think it was the Canley Club, on one occasion when Larry Grayson was on, doing drag, under the name Billy Breen. He frightened the life out of me, back stage, by keep looking at me and saying '....seems like a nice boy!'
Not forgetting of course the Navigation Inn, Stoney Stanton Rd, where the crowds would chant to have me give my rendition of Roger Miller's King of the Road.
My fleeting music career ended in 1963 when I decided that my future would probably be best served if I concentrated on my fifth year studies at Woodlands and got me some O-levels.
Annewiggy, might that Birmingham Rd. Allesley pub have been the Tollgate or maybe the Windmill on the opposite side? Coventry born and still hanging in there.

The Small Faces played the Locarno 23/7/1966 and 29/6/1967 In addition to that, during 1966 - 67 they played The Coventry Theatre x 2, The Gaumont Theatre x2 and the single gig at the Matrix.
I don't think the Faces could face the prospect of playing in Coventry? Coventry born and still hanging in there.

It would have been either 66 or 67 I saw them at the Locarno. The local group I remember was Jigsaw. We danced to them several times at Walsgrave. The lead singer used to come and dance with me and the drummer fancied my cousin I used to go around with then, the pub I was thinking of is opposite the Windmill now called the Quality Hotel. |

Hello,
All this dancing around, "Anyone seen my P.E. kit?
" Dad, is this film going to be an X? "
"No son. It's going to be a PG, ha, ha!"
PG Tips Adverts.
I'm mixed in my opinions about the use or exploitation of animals. Exploitation with harm a definite no no, but interaction with animals, if the animals are content or enjoying what they are involved in I'm sure that I'm ok with that. |

Saw some good groups at Cov Theatre. Particularly remember The Trogs, Reg Presley in his red and white striped suit singing Wild Thing

It would have been the Small Faces in either 66 or 67. Yes, The Sportsman's Arms sounds about right, it is now called Quality Hotel which is not so interesting. The French Rugby team were in there one night and bought us a drink. |

We earned our senior moments! We saw Ian McLagan at a local club here in Vienna Va. about a month before he died. He had a rant at Steve Marriott. Both he and Ronnie Lane were really mad at him for not helping Ronnie when he was wheelchair bound with, I think, muscular dystrophy. |
