Does anyone know anything about a manager at Binley pit (not sure what years).
He was known as "Cracker" Thompson.
He lived in one of the houses on the left of the Brandon Road just before you get to Willenhall Lane.
He was my husband's great uncle.

I tried the directories, no joy, but if you know any McKee family they had people at the pit
and a McKee lived along Brandon Road.

The 1939 register shows a Roland Thompson living at 37 Grange Avenue; the houses in Grange Avenue were occupied by colliery workers. My grandfather Alexander Grierson (living at 2 Grange Avenue) was one of the first miners at the pit and his four sons all followed him in working at Binley Colliery. His eldest son Samuel worked at the colliery for almost 50 years from 1909 to 1958, but unfortunately I don't remember mention of a Mr Thompson.

A bit more info regarding Binley pit.
If you Google 'binley colliery manager mckee', the first search result could be interesting.
In the article, Brandon Road is mis-spelt.

I think that my Sister and Brother in Law lived at number 37 Grange Avenue obviously after Roland Thompson did. My Brother in Law was Bob Harrison, he worked at Binley Pit for many years. Had something to do with the trades union. He frequented the Binley Colliery Club every weekend. |

I believe the house on the left, is where the original manager of Binley pit used to live.
