Coventry City Council is proposing to update the process for Locally Listing 'heritage assets' (generally historic buildings). Local Listing gives a way for local councils and communities to identify and celebrate historic buildings, archaeological sites and designed landscapes to ensure that they are given due consideration in the planning process when change is being proposed.
They would like people to give their views on the consultation about local listings of historic buildings.

How can the citizens of Coventry, if they want to, get the NPB bank building restored by removing that moronic bridge and anything else that needs to be removed?
Sorry to go on about it but I hate what that bridge has done.

I'm pretty sure Hertford Street is being "dealt with" in the new Coventry South plan.

This thread is about locally listed buildings. I doubt Broadgate House could be easily demolished as it's nationally listed.

Was the bridge built into it from the start and so unfortunately listed? So I suppose if the council ever clear the end of Hertford Street as promised that won't include the bridge?

This photo was posted on another thread, but it highlights what the bank looked like before the bridge |

Great picture! I think if it was unobscured like that still, it would be quite high up in the rankings of best building views in England.

It was originally built as a 'bridge' over the road. The infilling was added later. The plan is to remove the infilled and make it a 'bridge' again.
The building is listed.
It's a shame it was hidden like that. Creates a very odd and glooby space that doesn't seem to be great at attracting businesses. Personally, I am not keen on buildings and tunnels. Coventry seems to be full of them. The one between Primark and the former Leofric is pretty horrible as well.

I imagine the bridge was built to tone down the bank building and stop it clashing with the modernised Broadgate.
I personally find the original bank building a bit of a jumble of styles with its funny roof, Georgian windows and Greek columns. Having said that, it was an attractive jumble. I've always loved the metal doors too.
I look forward to the infill below the bridge being removed and maybe the area will visually make a bit more sense and feel a bit more airy and pleasant.
Cathedral Lanes, however....... Yuk.

That view down the side of the bank actually reminds me a bit of Regent Street in SW1
