Me too. Clearly there were a lot of babies. Alternatively, maybe she started as a draper and then changed to a baby and wool shop?

The Maypole shop Broadgate, grocery shop, always had the big tiles above them dark green, and the ironwork above that.

Bit late to respond, but I've only just joined. Christopher J Bee had a photograpic shop in the Lower Precinct from c.1964-1968. He was in partnership with John Pyle & they also ran Sherriff Construction. CJ Bee had a Chevrolet Impala convertible & John Pyle a yellow E type. They did a lot of business mailorder selling cine camera kits (Kohka 8mm zoom camera & a Realtone 8mm projector), all for 39 guineas! The death knell came when Dixons opened round the corner in Smithford Way. He just couldn't compete! He sold the shop to his hitherto manager KJ Fuell, who ran it for a couple of years. Chris had properties in C'an Pastilla, Majorca, including a night club, & I believe he went to live there after the sale of the business. He was certainly "a man about town" guy, but Jeannie, his, wife kept a tight reign on him.

Is there anyone out there who can remember my uncle Frank's shop at 19/21 Cobden Street in the 1950's?

Greengrocers, my uncle and my dad (Stan Strong) also had a pony & trap fruit & veg round, covering Red Lane / Stoney Stanton Road area. We lived there before moving to Canley on Coronation Day.

On 20th Nov 2011 12:35pm, K said: We bought quite a few items from the Co-op in Corporation St, too.
My mum used to buy loads from the Co in Corporation St, clothes, furniture, food and my Woodlands School uniform. We would then walk down the road to Agers to get my feet measured, and then finally on to Hogarths, passing Ashers curtain shop on the way. Occasionally we would cross the road to the Gas Showrooms and pay our bill.

Anyone remember the circular paper shop that was in the Bull Yard? I think it was ran by the Paynes.
