My 'Character of Coventry' is slipping pages as well Great anecdotes and reference book, I'm always dipping in to it. I must get my interest in it due to my certain age

Just over a year ago I posted this :
"As Christmas approaches, no doubt many are like me . . . really look forward to receiving a book token or a book on one of their favourite subjects There are many good books out there about Coventry, with hundreds of photographs and lots of information to enjoy
. . . Just a word of warning - avoid at all costs one called "Coventry through time" - have a look at these reviews on Amazon if you need to be convinced
I make no apologies for repeating this warning to all you good folk out here |

Father Christmas got me this one for being a good boy....
Nostalgic Memories of Coventry
... and jolly good it is too!
Theres a particularly good shot of Broadgate post-blitz from probably the Cathedral showing the early development of The Precinct opening off Broadgate but with still visible ruins of Smithford Street down towards Fleet Street. What interests me is that line the pedestrianised Precinct takes - a more north-easterly diagonal route than the original Smithford Street road layout...... |

Santa bought me a Coventry book that I had not seen before.
'Leonides' by Roy Probert was published in 2011 and tells the story of the Alvis aero engine which was built on the Holyhead Road. |

I think you'll find that's more north-westerly NeilsYard? Smithford Street ran north-easterly towards the High Street.
It's okay, I make that mistake all the time
Anyway, thanks for the recommendation as Amazon have just tried to sell me a copy |

Just had an interesting book out of Bell Green Library. It is called `Coventry in the Fifties` and is written collected and compiled by John Hall.
It gives a good flavour of the post war Coventry and quotes interesting Council notes about the redevelopment of the City Centre and covers local industrial relations, and a wide variety of subjects that give an overall picture of life in the city. |

Sorry if this is too late for some, but if anyone has the chance to pop into town today, local author David McGrory will be doing a book-signing at Waterstones between 11am and 1pm for his latest book Coventry: Bloody History.
I'm sure he'll appreciate any support from our membership. |

I have just had an email from Amazon about a new book by local author Rosie Goodwin. Called "Home Front Girls", it's about three women who all start work at Owen Owen just as war is declared. As yet there are no reviews on the book, so I don't know how good it is. |
