Coventry City get a record Highfield Road attendance of 51,455 (unofficially, probably a lot higher) as they beat Wolves 3-1 on their way to becoming Division Two champions - an achievement not clinched until two weeks later.

City drew their penultimate game at Ipswich, while Wolves beat Norwich to have a point advantage going into the last game. City duly beat Millwall on the last day, 13th May, while Wolves lost at Crystal Palace to give City the title by a single point.
