I was working in Lloyds Bank Corporation when Ian Gibson came in to cash a cheque. My mate and I, both star struck teenagers, said ""Alright Gibbo" whilst the lovely female cashier asked him if he had any form of identification.

With the news that Coventry Building Society will take over from Ricoh as the name of the stadium, could this be a start of a takeover from Sisu, with Gary Hoffman being the chairman of Coventry Building Society?

Hi Mr Blue Sky. Much as I would like CCFC to be owned by a local, prestigious group of some sort, CBS is a mutual building society owned by its members. I don't think it would be in the market for taking over a football club. Unless its members voted for it.

I can see it just being referred to as the CBS Stadium down the line as the full new name is a bit of a mouthful.

Very sad news. George will forever be remembered for his spell as Manager alongside John Sillett during that fabulous FA Cup winning season 1986-87. Equally, he was one of the CCFC legends alongside Jimmy Hill and Derrick Robins who were fundamental in the rise from Division 4 to Division 1. RIP George.

Such sad news for CCFC supporters. Condolences to George's family, friends and colleagues, not to mention the Snowdown Colliery in Kent where George maintained his friendships all those years. Loyal to his family, his friends, his club and his team mates. A Coventry City legend of legends. Every professional and amateur footballer of any generation can learn a lot from George, not once did he give 99%. I know I learnt from his reputation and it stood me in good stead for thirty years of school and non-league football. You owe it to your team... A player much underrated by the media, he drove our club with sheer tenacity, enthusiasm and skill; he left his influence on City teams for more than a decade on the pitch and several decades off the pitch. A cheerful and open individual, he was much loved by Coventry staff for so many years. Few footballers will leave a bigger legacy to their clubs. It's nice to see positive twitter comments already posted by former City players. I think it was the late, great Kenneth Wolstenholme who commented as George took a corner; "always a man, never a boy". Compliments don't come better than that. George made his debut at 16 in the Football Combination, please bring it back, and played in at least four divisions. I am sure he must have played in the 3rd Division South too, so perhaps he played in all five divisions. Five hundred odd games. Captain. First name on the team sheet. Can't do better than that really can you. As someone whose parents moved from the city in the late fifties and for someone who has worked in most counties in southern England, George and JH have been beacons of home to me as much as those three spires. Has a club every made such an important and effective signing from non-league football? I doubt it. Whilst George is remembered by so many in the game for the FA Cup success of 1987, that was just the icing on the cake of his contribution to our club. Player, Captain, Commercial Director, Manager, Managing Director..... R.I.P. George, you made our club great and our city a better place. Role model in a million. Truly, truly gutted. I might edit when I feel better.

Great post, Greg - doesn't need editing, just digesting so that all who read it can understand what a great he was Thumbs up Incidentally, I often used to see him on the golf course whilst he was a City player, and he never appeared to be as big as he did in his football kit Oh my
