JanB. That's exactly what I wanted to know. It was told to me by a friend so I put it on to see if it was correct. Thanks for the response and welcome to our Forum.

Wonderful! That is just how I remember it, but in the 1950s. The picture, by the childrens' clothes and hairstyles looks as if it was taken in the 1930s.

The low wall, on the other side of the road, runs to the bottom of Brays Lane. Until a few years ago there was a metal plaque fastened to it giving the history of the horse racing which used to take place there, a long time ago. Sadly, the plaque disappeared (probably due to the scrap value rising).

I rather think this low wall, the other side of Gentleman's Green, might be made up of former city wall remnants. Does anyone know if this is a possibility?

I always wonder where all the stone went from Kenilworth Castle, there must have been a lot of it. The wall continues quite a long way up Brays Lane, where I was born in 1950.

If you type "sandstone" into the search facility on this forum, there are many references to the vast amounts of the material available and buildings etc constructed therefrom Thumbs up
