Hi all, Whilst visiting the Market today, my friend & I were a bit disappointed that we had already eaten. It was a delight to meet the long standing manager of the Market cafe. Our disappointment was upon seeing the joint of pork about to be served on dinner plates. I will try & put that right next week. The disappointment, I mean!

Good afternoon, Following a trip to have my chirops done in Radford, I visited a cafe at the top of Hertford St, for a scrumptious breakfast, £6 including tea or coffee. The only downer was the cafe was cold for sitting. Food really good & good value.

We also like that café - perfect when you just want a quick basic meal like sausage, beans & chips, etc. Like you said, very good value indeed. Smile

I've looked fruitlessly for a takeaway fish and chip shop but a good, eat in, all day breakfast establishment sounds good.

Good afternoon, Today, I enjoyed a Christmas dinner in the Coventry Market Cafe. At half the price that I paid for a pub Christmas dinner a fortnight ago. I decided to go "Up-Market". It's a joke! Anyway the dinner was very nice. Now look! It's not Carnaby hall, neither is it Fortnum & Mason's. There's no soft island breezes either, only a howling gale if the door is left open! The roast turkey dinner was beautiful. For me, the star of the show has to be the pudding. A proper plum pudding, the best served Christmas pudding that I've enjoyed from anywhere. In fact the pudding gets the three brills award. Brill, brill & brill. Ok, on with your knitting now.

Have just come to this post very late. Wonder what other peoples memories are. I recall the first time that I ever saw a real jukebox.. My guess would be about 1957/58/59 time. Have no idea what the place was called. Was a coffee bar, just down the road from The Gaumont, on the opposite side of the road? Anyone have any recollection?

There is one advertised at 5 Gosford Street opening in 1959 called Gigi's slash. Would that be the one ? The first one I remember was next to the Savoy on the Radford Road. Lively hissing coffee machine and a juke box. That one appealed more to the Mods who would keep away from the Beaker Cafe on Beake Avenue which was frequented by the Rockers !

My friends and I used to go to the Cafe next to the Rose and Woodbine Pub in Stoney Stanton Road on Friday and Saturday nights in 1958/9 as they had a nice Juke Box. It cost sixpence for a single play and a shilling for three plays. Ever since I have always wanted my own Juke Box but they cost a fortune and would not be able to get through our front door.
