I've been to the tops of mountains and want to see lots of ice but I don't envy how he got to those views. Comfort is my exploring watch word and hopefully keeping all my extremities.

Scaled a few hills myself, Ben Nevis, Snowdon, Scafell Pike, Carrauntoohil, Helvellyn via Striding Edge. Walked The High Street in two feet of snow, slept in a cave and wild camped for most of the 630 mile South West Coast Path. Kept mostly away from the water apart from water falls. But after seeing some of his pictures and films and listening to him, I realised I have done very little. So far he has raised over £19m for Marie Curie !!

Woke this morning by my Echo Dot playing The Doors' classic-Riders On The Storm and drifted off into my youth. As Ray Mazarek played his keyboard solo part way through the track I suddenly thought of you Philip (even though I've only met you once) belting it out in some cavernous church or chapel you've frequented! Now wouldn't that be something!

Why is tidying up so boring when untidying is lots of fun?

Working on your theory Helen , I have just looked around our bungalow and realised that I must have been having a a great deal of fun.

I was looking for a bookish place to to put this little bit of nostalgia and this seemed to be the best place. I had just finished Pies and Prejudice by Stuart Maconie- loved it- and decided to order some more of his books from Better World Books- amazing source. The books are mostly ex library and in good condition. You can imagine my amazement when I opened my copy of Hope and Glory A People's History of Modern Britain - to find that it had come all the way from MY library in Coundon. BWB were having a special and my 3 books shipped from the UK in only 3 weeks and there was no shipping charge. All monies made go to charities. I'm looking forward to reading his Adventures on the High Teas - In Search of Middle England and The People's Songs - the Story of Modern Britain in 50 Songs.

That's wonderful. There are several books regarding this subject, of The Peoples History Of Britian. The Peoples History Of England, was a text during my economics, sixty years ago. It was recommended that the book was covered so the title wasn't visible openly. A lot of history wasn't taught in schools for fear that it showed a bad light on some of our not so pleasant historical past events.

I remember that book covering chore at the beginning of each term. We knew what every ones wallpaper looked like! I still have my Arthur Mee's Children's encyclopedia set, which my parents bought off a door to door salesman in 1953/54. I was an early reader by the time I was about 10 I'd read it all - except for the math and science, and I was always able to refer to it for homework. I've dragged it around with me over hell's half acre and thought it had the answer to everything. In about 1985 my daughter was in a panic as she had a paper to do on Van Gogh. Aha, good old Arthur Mee's. Nope, not a mention.

I have more than one browser. Firefox is set up to accept no cookies, so I see no adverts and get no cookies, even when it asks me to accept the cookies and I click accept. I can often read stuff behind paywalls. Not everything works but it's a useful option.

I have a new car! Scary driving it home during rush hour. I'm having a Cornetto to compensate.
