Copsewood Grange

i find it quite sad, it was such a nice building, when I went there I heard some people from the top of it so im assuming that they where druggies, we went around the back and saw some fresh bear bottles, so im assuming that they where drunk to

It has been announced this morning that planning permission - granted to developers BL Goodman in 2012 to convert the buildings into apartments - has been withdrawn due to fears that they actually intended to demolish the building rather than carry out their original plans. The Council say they stepped in to prevent that from happening.

I live about a couple of minutes walk away from Copsewood House, billboards for Morris Homes have been put up regarding new housing development. Any idea if they intend to renovate Copsewood House and the Lodge building too?

Since the Council put an "Article Four direction" on the site last Friday, at this moment no work is to be carried out. Which buildings were covered by the original redevelopment plans I'm afraid I don't know. But all work has stopped at this time. An Article Four Direction doesn't stop work per se, but it does mean that everything that is carried out on a particular site then requires planning permission first.

It appears that the original planning permission was granted for the Grange AND Lodge to be redeveloped and converted into 15 flats But not sure what will happen now.

I was back in the Coventry area over the Bank Holiday weekend, mainly to go 'up the Bees' on Monday night. I resisted the temptation to visit the old GEC Stoke Works site and also Copsewood Grange. I prefer to remember them as they used to be when the company was thriving and the Grange was a fabulous building in which to entertain BT customers in the mid 80's.

There's not much left of the Stoke GEC/Marconi/GPT site. In fact, I think there's only one small building left. I was there 1997-2001 when it was booming and growing madly - a lot of new graduates. I left just before it collapsed.

It's not all doom and gloom. According to the planning application I received through my door. Morris homes will be renovating the gate house and the drive way that leads upto the grange. This has been accepted and work should start in he next 6 to 12 months. So hopefully the grange will follow suit. Ps I too am tired of looking at the grange in it's current state. I bought one of the new houses on the new development of the old GEC. Fingers crossed it will get sited before it's burnt down.

I was talking about this on another site recently, wondering what the ruined building I could see from Binley Road was - turns out it was the Lodge. Would be good to see these in the housing development as they be brilliant local focal points. The Lodge would be a wonderful family home if repaired and a bit of modernising allowed. The Grange itself could be apartments, although part of me thinks it would make a very good retirement home. I think a lot of elderly people would love living in a place like that and Allesley Hall (which is quite similar in terms of size) has been one for years.

Heritage - do you have a photograph of James Hart please. I have searched for his death and that of his wife, Martha, without any success. It would have been in London, I guess, after the census of 1901. I was unaware of the Copsewood Grange connection to him so thank you for your post.

Such a shame we had some happy evenings there when the GEC ran it as a club a lovely old building destroyed by senseless acts of vandalism
