Excellent find Dean! Thumbs up I am curious about the Police officers helmets, not only the taller "spike" on top (I'm sure there's a technical term for those!) but also I see two officers with chains on their helmets. Do those represent rank or were they from another force I wonder? Anyone have any further info on those - and where did the procession in the film start from?

I found this site and there are helmets similar to the video, but quite why officers would be brought in from other areas is not obvious. Rank doesn't appear to have anything to do with helmet decoration. The type of helmet is only worn by the foot patrols.

Hi TonyS, the helmets were ceremonial. Similar to the Fire Brigades polished Brass & Chrome ones used on such occasions, although these were original Victorian/Edwardian Helmets.

My grandparents and my father could well be on that film as they moved into a new house in the Moorfield round about that time.

Unfortunately those stills only seem to cover the first part of the film, those showing the city centre. The final part in Stoke Aldermoor don't seem to be there.

Hello everybody. Not sure if anyone saw this but British Pathe have released their catalogue of short clips and yesterday a nice little clip of a Lanchester student who had built a remote control Dalek selling student magazines was rolling around Coventry in 1964. The clips not very long but theres some nice little bits of 1964 Coventry in it and great to see Lynes stores in the background. You can view it here and I think they mentioned its also been uploaded to Youtube
