What a good question. I've always assumed that it was because it was next to Coundon Road Station. Suddenly struck me that I have never worn my club tie since they left Coundon Road.

The memories keep coming back. How about Ricky Melville chasing George Cole's long range penalties, the few that fell short were often collected by the right winger, scoring under the posts. It happened on such a regular basis you wondered if it was sometimes a tactical move to get more points. I believe Ricky Melville died earlier this year, makes you feel old.

On 29th Nov 2012 9:37pm, Beesman said: I was at the Midland Counties (West) game against South Africa. It was played on something like a Wednesday afternoon in January.(1970) Still got a good attendance though. The match was in doubt until the 11th hour as the police were concerned at the level of protest that may have ensued.
Here's the programme. The Midlands team was: Doble Fielding, Dave Duckham, Bob Griffiths, Hale Finlan, Webster Jim Broderick, Lane, Keith Fairbrother Davis, Harry Prosser Phillips, Cobner, Les Rollinson 6 Coventry, 6 Moseley, Harlequins, Old Saltleians and Pontypool.

Great programme Bentley. Brings back lots of memories. Bob Griffiths was a teacher at my school. (KHVIII)

I don't remember the Cossacks performing on the Rugby ground but they did put a show on Taylors three acre field Hall Green Rd just after the war. I cannot remember there being an admission charge, I think it was a free show..Les

Lots of you seem to remember the players but wonder if you remember my parents, Charlie and Frances Prescott. My Dad was secretary of the supporters club and ran the Tote every week. He went on to be part time groundsman when he was retired. He also became President of the club which was quite unusual as he was not a former player. My Mum ran the tea bar in the cowshed for years. Every Sat. my sister and I spent at Coundon Rd. We sold programmes, kept the scoreboard and helped on the tea bars. I remember the clubhouse being built, at the end of a game Dad would buy us a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps and we would wait outside while Mum and Dad had a drink before going home. We ran around the pitch and tried to kick a ball over the goal posts. Happy Days.

Charabanc, I was at that game against Cornwall. I remember that a huge Cornish pasty was tied to the goal posts! I used to go to see matches with my dad every week, and Peter Jackson was my idol - he was brilliant.

Phil Judd, my all time hero, closely followed by Mike McLean and Herbie Godwin. Perhaps obvious that I always played in the front row.

Mine too (even if I always played in the second row!).
