When I left work for the last time (won't call it retirement as it was a little more complicated than that), I created a website to sell books Roy had collected over the years towards his "pension", mostly military and aviation. I went through the whole collection and found average prices for them mostly off Abebooks. Most prices on there were reasonable unless it was a rare book but a couple of sellers had ridiculous prices, sometimes 10 or more times greater. Roy thinks they do this to inflate the figures in the accounts, no way were they going to sell books at the prices on there.
The book I have, A Harvest of History, on Amazon there are 3 second hand copies, 2 at £8 and one in America at £69.95. Ridiculous. |

I reckon there are several possibilities. Someone gets the decimal point in the wrong place. Some are trying it on and hoping someone will get currency conversion wrong or are desperate for that specific book. Some are trying to make other copies look cheap or to introduce big cuts later. But yes, there may be a deeper reason for it. |

I think the picture on the front of the book could be Craven Street looking down towards Hearsall Lane. |

I have asked Father Christmas for this book! At the moment I am reading "A History of Women's Lives in Coventry" which my daughter found in the Kenilworth bookshop. That should keep me quiet for a bit! |

The Old Cross magazine, by W G Fretton.
A free to read book from the British Library - it's a collection of magazines covering diverse subjects but mostly based round Coventry and Warwickshire. Interesting mix of subjects. There's even a run down of some of the options on why Coventry is called Coventry on page 216. |

I, too, have this book and have really enjoyed it. It covers women's and girls' lives from 1850 to 1950. It was a watershed time in women's history. |

Going through my late mother's books, I found a booklet by Joan C Lancaster CBE with excellent drawings by Robert Overy FRSA and printed in 1981, "A Guide to the Building, it's History and Contents".
I don't think it's been opened since purchased. Has about 80 pages.
If any seasoned poster here would like it, just get in touch via the contact button and I will send it on. Nice to think it's going to a good home where it can be appreciated.

I can confirm that it's a good book about St Mary's but I've already got it. |

Update... the book has now been claimed by a forumite.
I'm glad it's gone to a good home.

I now have received the book and have already learned more about St Mary’s Hall. I was last in the hall in the late 60’s or early 70's so it’s a bit of a trip down memory lane.
Many thanks to “Ace5150" for passing it on! |

I just bought an old book I've never seen before - Coventry Views and Reviews (illustrated) up-to-date. Looks interesting from the ebay pics - lots of stuff on banks and industry from sometime early in the 1900s. Anybody got it? |
