Dear forum members and Brandon supporters, I hope that the stadium can be kept open and the history kept alive in future motor racing events there. Too much of Coventry's sporting, cultural and leisure heritage has been bulldozed already. Some of you know that I write about Coventry and I'd like to include something about Brandon in my forthcoming one as it deserved to be documented in some way. If anyone went there during the 80s I would be happy to hear from you with your memories. Thanks in anticipation and here's hoping that Brandon's future can be secured.

One of speedway's all-time greats, Ronnie Moore, OBE, has died at the age of 85 Sad Twice world champion, he had a brief spell with Coventry Bees in 1974** RIP Mirac! ** Two away meetings in August 1974, scoring five points at Belle Vue and six at Hull (each from five rides)

On 16th Nov 2017 7:19pm, Beesman said: Strange how Horton claimed that it was not viable to run a National League team at Coventry on a Sunday. So now he proposes to run a Coventry National League team at Leicester . . . on a Sunday Oh my
Coventry Bees raced in the National League (third tier of British Speedway) at Leicester in 2018. However, at the recent AGM of the National League, eight clubs were confirmed as starters in 2019 - the list did not include Coventry's name. Leicester are tracking their own team (The Cubs) in the NL, as well as The Lions in the SGB Championship. No real surprise that Mick Horton's venture has not been successful enough to be repeated for a second season.

My dad had a Bees badge which was fitted to the badge bar on his Standard 10. I would dearly like to own one to put on my Riley, a tall order I know but can anyone help me please? Apologies if I should not have posted this request. Blush

It was my father's, Vaughan, and was affixed to a badge bar on his successive Standard Vanguards, along with RAC and VMC badges. I wish I knew what had happened to those, particularly the latter! Obviously the Bees badge has great sentimental value to me, so I couldn't put a price on it.

As cars these days don't have bumper bars, I had to think of a better place for my Bees badge!

Speedway supporters have a big night coming up on Thursday 13th June at the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club. It's also a big night for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund as the former Coventry Bees legend Tommy Knudsen earlier this year sent over a large collection of his trophies and race jackets to be auctioned for the fund. This will be completed at the supporters event. SRBF Chairman Paul Ackroyd said "This is a great gesture by Tommy, he sent a 92kg pallet over with the collection. We auctioned some of the items at the Ben Fund Bonanza at Leicester, and there has been great interest in the remainder of the collection which is up for auction on Thursday." Lawrence Hare and Joe Owen, former riders who were both left paralysed by track crashes, will be present at the event and Bruce Cribb will be signing copies of his new book, to be sold also for the benefit of the SRBF. A big attendance of collectors and other interested parties is expected at the meeting which starts at 8pm. Venue: The Brandon Club, Main Street, Brandon, Coventry CV8 3HW.

From the NSSC: A? total figure for the evening was £2620.21. This includes the raffle, collection and auction. A great effort from all concerned; Tommy Knudsen, Paul Ackroyd, Lawrence Hare, Joe Owen, Bruce Cribb, the host & auctioneer Peter York and especially the good speedway folk who dug deep in to their pockets to achieve such a great total for such a great cause.? Peter York again hosts the next event at the NSSC on 11th July when Bruce Cribb returns to talk at length about his new book which of course will be available to purchase with all profits going to the Ben Fund. Proceeds from entrance fees and raffle on the evening will also be donated to the Ben Fund.

Tom Farndon's grave is in St Paul's Cemetery Jackson Road, Holbrooks. Just go to the chapel and look for the black marble motorcycle grave, you can't miss it.

Thanks for that, Mobray - and a belated welcome to our friendly forum Wave If you type "Tom Farndon" into the search box (top left hand corner) and press "go", this will bring up several mentions of him on the forum, including some information about this "Famous Coventrian" Thumbs up
