I remember it but not the name of it. Does anyone else look to see if they can spot someone they know in these old photos?

As with Elaine I remember it, but certainly not to my taste. My Grandmother is on the front cover of one of the Alton Douglas Coventry books. Had owned it for years before an uncle pointed her out to me.

Hi heritage, I've copied below a couple of cover pictures from two of Alton Douglas' books - is it either of these? The first one is from "A Century of News" and the second one from "Memories of Coventry".

Ah yes, I do actually recall that statue, despite my tender years. Lol It's now been moved to the bottom of Hertford Street. I seem to remember that it was sculpted by one of our art teachers at Stoke Park School, Mr. Wagstaffe, who also did the lovely "Naiad" statue, which was moved from the rear of the council offices in Jordan Well to Lady Herbert's Garden. This link will take you to Google Maps - zoom in to see the statue....

Hello Rob, Thank you for putting those images on. She is the 'Giles Grandmother' look alike on the second photograph crossing the road with her sister. She died in 1948 at home in Banks Road opposite Steeplefield Road.

Anyone have a photo of the water feature/fountain that used to be under this walkway?

Only one I've ever found! I remember the artwork was pretty creepy.

Why did they take it away? I suppose vandalism would be good enough reason these days!!!!!!!

Does anyone know when the picture of the Lower Precinct was taken? The couple walking near the seating area looks just like myself and my late husband Gary, would love to know if it is. Thumbs up

I seem to remember that it was part of the `revamp` of the Upper Precinct some years ago, when they filled in the underground toilets (I`m sure that helped the tourist trade) and probably when they built the ramp at the Broadgate end.

Hi Mayjan. From looking at the image data it indicates that it was taken on 14th Jan 2009 at 11:17 (assuming the camera's date was set correctly) Hope that helps.

Hi Tony, thanks for that but if you are correct it can't possibly be myself and my husband as he passed away over 5 years ago, it's really strange as it is the spit of both of us. I showed it to different members of my family and asked if they recognised anyone in the picture and they all straight away said they thought it was us, we must have doubles! Thumbs up
