Hi Anne, Often went into Holbrooks and even bought a beech and elm chest of drawers for my daughter's nursery that was 55 years ago and believe it not she now has it in her spare room here in Oz. so it has travelled a long way. Good solid piece of furniture. I would add we had all our furniture shipped over here and still have a lot of it

Yes Neil, and I believe that Elizabeth's cake shop and café was to the left of Holbrooks, just past passageway to Ford's Hospital.

Great photo. Anyone here know the name/type of the 1930's "Hot Hatch" in the photo?

Maybe an MG TA. I think the TD did not have spoked wheels, but no expert. Smile

Or did you mean the fastback on the opposite side? A Jowett Javelin, I believe. To me the bridge looks suspiciously like an artist's impression, no shadow cast on the road.

The Jowett was not built pre war, my guess is some sort of an American car or, alternatively a Standard Flying 12. Thumbs up Again the MG TD was built post war, so it is either a TA or a TC.

Can anyone tell me what number Hertford Street Holbrooks were?

It looks like it might be number 61, Neil. I haven't got it on any map but there was a British Motor Syndicate in roughly the right place on the Fire Insurance maps. That block stretched from Hertford Street to Warwick Lane (where it was number 524 but would have originally been number 42).
