It does give some hope, but there are no guarantees. Speedway tracks are not popular with residents because of the perceived noise, even though races are short and bikes having better silencers than years ago. So finding a venue won't be easy, even given 3 years. CCFC have had almost a year and made no progress whatsoever, and planning could take 1-2 years before a brick is laid.
I suppose they may even end up sharing at Perry Barr. |

I don't think it would be possible to share at Perry Barr MrD-Di.
I'm pretty certain the council only allow Birmingham Speedway so many meetings a year. What with that and the inevitable fixture congestion due to postponed meetings throughout the season I think it would be a non-starter.
I'm sure you feel the same, just like the Sky Blues, we want our own stadium! |

Perry Barr would be the nightmare scenario, I suppose. But I'm sure it had been mentioned. And didn't the new Cradley team ride some challenge matches there?
Plenty of people have mentioned the Bees riding at the Ricoh. Unlikely, I know, but I'd like to see that. The alternative might be a new track in the middle of nowhere with a couple of Meccano stands and a hot-dog van.
What the Sky Blues need is the Ricoh. This mythical new stadium may as well be on the moon. If it were ever built, there would be so few people there it would be a joke. I'm with the majority who think the first brick will never be laid. |

Notices have been circulated by the Banbury office of Framptons Town Planning, advising local residents of a forthcoming meeting - I will quote from the notice:
Dear Resident TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1990 LAND AT BRANDON STADIUM, RUGBY ROAD An outline planning application is being prepared for a residential development on the site at Brandon Stadium, Rugby Road. An exhibition to display these proposals has been arranged for: SATURDAY 18th OCTOBER 2014 BETWEEN 10.15AM - 1PM IN THE BINLEY WOODS VILLAGE HALL, RUGBY ROAD, BINLEY WOODS, COVENTRY, CV3 2AX You are cordially invited to view these proposals. Members of the planning team will be in attendance to answer any questions and you will have the opportunity to leave your comments and feedback. We look forward to welcoming you at the exhibition. This clearly is the second stage towards all sporting events (speedway, stock car, greyhound racing, etc) ceasing to exist at the stadium after over 85 years - the first stage was putting the site up for sale, see this link. Hopefully, HCF members concerned about the future of the stadium will endeavour both to attend this meeting, and also pass on to as many like-minded people as possible the date and venue of the meeting, to ensure a good attendance from those who may wish to oppose any redevelopment of the site. |

Hello Midland Red
My heart goes out to the Bees supporters. Sincerely hope Brandon Stadium remains intact. I admit to only being a very occasional visitor to Brandon but appreciate all the history attached to the site and the fact Bees fans can truly say: "This is our home". From what I have seen on television recently, it is obvious that Speedway is an honest sport with extremely brave riders who certainly earn their money, unlike the pampered, over-paid, cheating pansy footballers who play the game today.
Good luck to the Bees in their final and I hope planning permission is refused. |

Surely all that are interested in any sport that takes place at Brandon Stadium will be at the Meeting on Saturday or at least will sign the petition that is on-going on Face book (Save Coventry Speedway) it is strength in numbers so we can put up a good argument why they shouldn't grant permission for making it a housing estate. The locals don't want it and I am sure the local facilities can't support it , so let's put a good strong case to them that a housing estate is not wanted. |

I hope not but maybe wasps and bees can live together - who knows. |

The link does work so anyone that has any interest in stopping this planning permission being bulldozed through should get on it and air their views. |

Although I was never a speedway fan I amongst many others would regret the passing of Coventry Speedway.
Sign the petition by all means but I fancy that it will be ignored as most petitions are. Where money rules public opinion is as nothing.
Last time I was at the speedway was to see Cavalcade of Speed in the 60s when a friend, Alf Howes, was a competitor in the stock car race. Or was it when I went to see the Harlem Globetrotters v The Texas Cowboys? Can't remember which was the last. Norman Just old and knackered

Having been a Speedway fan since the 60s, it saddens me to see what is happening, because it will happen, Brandon stadium will go and it will be built on (Blackbird Road Leicester springs to mind). BUT has a feasability study been completed as to sharing the ground with Wasps and CCFC? It works at The Millenium Stadium although they do not use it every week. Just a thought, probably useless |
