How much of Gosford Green was lost to Sky Blue Way? Was it mostly the Hermitage site on old maps?

Happy to be corrected Prof but I don't think any of the Green went for Sky Blue Way to go in. That went right over where All Saints Lane was and the Church itself.

Actually, Prof is quite correct about this - a helluvalot of the original green lies under what is now Sky Blue Way. This Scottish maps overlay shows that Gosford Green once extended over what is now a car park at the east end of Far Gosford Street, opposite the old Lloyd's Bank.

Given that it turns the west end of the park into a traffic island and slices a layer off the south, it does lop off a significant chunk.

Flippin' 'eck I'd forgotten it was like that Rob. I only think of Sky Blue Way as the bit up from Lower Ford Street etc. Well reminded!

It was only recently when looking at an old map for my "now and then" photos that I suddenly realised just how reduced in size the green now is!

This image has turned up on FB thanks to Joe Fiasco. I had no idea the remains of the fountain were still visible going in to the 80s....judging by the age of the photo. It does however give you a good indicator of the position of it - pretty sure that's Binley Road behind with the junction of Grafton Street to the left -

Google maps concurs with you Neil. The building with the curved bay window is now a dentist and the post box is still in the same position on Grafton Street.
