Dear all I am writing a book about the architecture of home-based work which includes a section on the Coventry cottage factory. I need copyright permission for any images I publish. I would like to include these two, but need to ascertain the copyright situation. Can anyone know their origin? Does anyone have a postcard of either of them, that might include the name of the photographer? Also, does anyone know the location of the second one below? Many thanks Frances

Hello Frances Wave The first picture is on the Coventry Society's website but is not credited by them. The second picture is claimed to be South Street but looks more like the corner of East Street to me? It belongs to the Coventry History Centre, Herbert Museum and Art Gallery.

Frances. I put the top pic on here last year, I got it from A Century Of News by Alton Douglas. It says Brook St front, Berry St left and Vernon Street right. The bottom pic is in the top one, the corner of Brook St and Vernon St. Thumbs up

Thank you all! I am not very good at using these forums, so this message may go in the wrong place. I am excited to hear that the one picture is in the other. So is it right that the bottom image is part of Eli Green's cottage factory? And many thanks for the information about ownership rights I shall follow up the leads. Impressively fast response! Frances

The top picture will belong to MirrorPix now. I did search MirrorPix before posting but was unable to find it there.

I'm not sure how NormK came to that conclusion? Pictures of Coventry seem to think it's South Street whereas I think it's the corner of East Street and South Street, neither of which are anywhere near the triangle.

I don't think it is. Roll eyes

The topshop windows in the second picture do not match the topshop windows at the Vernon Street/Brook Street corner (lower right angle of the triangle in the first image). I don't know where the location of the second picture is, though.

I know I stated that the bottom pic was part of the top one. I thought the windows were altered with a centre dividing wall because they were being used for dwellings now and not workshops. Roll eyes

That sounds quite feasible. I was familiar with the triangle from the Berry Street side and it always seemed to me that those topshops weren't used as living space. The windows were dingy and uncurtained as far as I remember. I never saw a person at any of them. What do Tricia and Mayjan remember?

The second photo was a second-hand shop in the 60s on the corner of East Street and South Street, as Dutchman has rightfully said. We used to sit on the steps when we were kids. Cheers Thumbs up
