Hey, a huge "thank you" to TonyS, for getting our forum a fantastic mention on't wireless today! Vic Minett on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire gave us a great plug while talking about coffee shops, and specifically mentioned Baz on our Kongoni thread. If this flash player below doesn't play on your computer, then try the link below, which you can use to directly play or download the mp3 that I've uploaded to the site....

Hi all Wave We have been contacted several times by our local BBC radio. Saskia, a researcher contacted us about a year ago asking our opinions regards the issues of hotels in our city. Prior to that, her colleague Marian had asked about public transport in an email to me. Our forum is well noticed. Thumbs up

If we ever need reminding that this Historic Coventry Forum ought to be kept "on track" and decent, it might be this.... Our daughter has recently begun a placement at a Primary School, as part of her qualifying year. Teaching is all she's ever wanted to do, as she loves to help children progress both educationally and as decent human beings. During her first week, which was with 6-7 year-olds, when history was mentioned, she asked the teacher what resources they used. The teacher opened the browser and showed her the familiar cream & brown Historic Coventry. "Wow, that's my dad's website" exclaimed Mandy, proudly! The teacher told her that they particularly enjoy the "Now and Then" pictures, to see how our city used to look. So now we know that children from 5 to 11 years old (and beyond) will be using the site - and many will, out of childlike curiosity, click the links and wander onto this discussion part. These impressionable youngsters, folks, are part of our audience. Connected with this subject is the fact that only children of 13 years and above are allowed on Facebook - for good reason - so that style of social media is not where we wish this site to end up.

Wow Big grin I was still living in Coventry at the time and the sum total of my knowledge of its history was visiting the bombed cathedral. In December it's my 10th anniversary of visiting the site although it was a few more months before I joined. Thankfully it was pre Pinterest etc or I'd never have found you lot. I was searching for images of city gatehouses and up popped the Cook Street gate followed by the Swanswell gate. How hilarious that in a few weeks I'll be sleeping in them! I then searched for medieval Coventry pics and almost all of them were from a site called 'Historic Coventry'. I first assumed it was an official site because nothing matched it. I then found the forum...

Hi Helen, hi all, I was looking for Highfield Street over a decade ago. Rob intervened in minutes. That's what showed me that this was a real website, with real people that really cared.
