On 26th Oct 2011 3:57pm, Elaine said: I'm trying to remember the name of the tailor on the corner of Wyley Rd and Radford Road but all I can think of is that it is an Italian name. Also, I have a vague memory that he moved out because his living accommodation above the shop was said to be haunted.I think it was reported in the CET at the time. However, no one else has reported hauntings since then and I think that all of the premises are occupied.
Hi Elaine, just come across this old post, I remember this Italian taylor in the Radford Road, he used to sit cross legged in the shop, you could see him through the window. Don't know if this shop was around in more recent times.

Arthur Hammon sold Bablake boys grey suits, two and three piece I think. Anyone remember halfway to the top of Bishop St Tooby Atkins, leather shop. My first music case (sheet music) for piano lessons came from there as did my father's gift of a large briefcase when I first left Coventry for College in Bristol. As my grandmother's family were Atkins I always wondered if they were in someway related but my father never said.

Forsyth in Hertford Street was a high quality bespoke tailor. My 21st birthday present was a suit made there, and first bespoke garment I ever owned.

Does anyone know if there is a tailor around who can make a pair of trousers? I've got some heavy Harris Tweed that I'd like to get made up. Thinking maybe a seamstress/dressmaker could do it but prefer a tailor if possible.

I remember my Dad having a suit made there in the late 60s or early 70s.

My father always had his suits made by a Mr Court who had premises up one of the side roads somewhere off Albany Road. This would have been in the 1950s.

Yes, thank you Midland Red. My father was born in Broomfield Road in 1920 and later lived in Sovereign Road, this was well before WW2.

Talking of bespoke tailors, Mr. Hodkinson had a shop in Far Gosford Street (his daughter taught at Stoke Park School), and he was very 'old fashioned'. Jackets were "button 2 or button 3", never the other way round. My father, mother & I had suits made by him from material sent to us from Australia; best fitting suits I ever wore.

There was Forsyth's tailors in Hertford Street half way down on the left hand side. As a 21 birthday present my father paid for my first light grey West of England cloth three piece suit, with hem stitched jacket and waistcoat. A few years after I had a second clerical grey three piece made there too. I think it was one of the best tailoring outfits in Coventry.

Hi folks, I'm looking for shops in Coventry offering Made-To-Measure suits. Please let me know if there is one in Coventry, that would be very helpful. Thank you.
