I hope so. At least without Sisu being involved it has a chance of being built, unlike their Fantasy Arena. |

From another forum :
The 2014 Autumn / Winter 'In Touch' news leaflet from Rugby Conservative Association was delivered to houses in the Rugby area today. The leaflet contained the following entry under the heading Planning: We all attended the pre application exhibition organised by the planning consultants Frampton's who want to build houses on Brandon Speedway, within the greenbelt. Phase one (approximately half the site) appeared to suggest 124 dwellings. Cllr Timms was quick to instruct them to remove the Rugby Borough Council logo from their publicity banner as there were clearly errors in the material they were presenting. Speedway fans, local residents, together with stock car enthusiasts were keen to express their concerns. This has been a successful sporting venue for many a year and it is being challenged on where an alternative venue could be located. Watch this space. (article end). |

Just a thought, what about the ground around by 'Erikson', it's right next to motorway and no residents, maybe councils will block anyway because it's something the normal people want so they wont be interested!!! |

From another forum:
The 'Save Coventry Speedway' campaign was started in September 2014 after the announcement that plans were being prepared for the building of housing at Coventry Stadium in Brandon, which has staged speedway since 1928. It was also announced that motor sports at the stadium, one of the country's finest and best loved motor sport venues, would cease at the end of the 2016 season.
Supporters were assured that a new stadium would be built in the a Coventry area before the existing one was 'levelled' but we have had no news of any developments in regard to locating land for a new stadium, nor any progression of housing plans on the exiting site, or any announcement of a change of plan at Brandon.
This meeting is called to put the future of both speedway and stock car racing firmly back on the agenda with urgency and the 'Save Coventry Speedway' campaign will be inviting key representatives from the stadium, the council and the promoters of both motor sports to speak at this meeting to enlighten concerned fans. It is also hoped that a fund will be set up to ensure that the interests of the racing community with its long and rich heritage can be properly represented.
We are all aiming for the same thing - the preservation and prosperity of our beloved sports. So it's time we came together with common purpose.

SAVE COVENTRY SPEEDWAY UPDATE 050216
The Save Coventry Speedway supporters group will this month be making representations towards the Rugby Borough Council's local plan which will set out what we consider to be a strong case for retention of the existing stadium with a proviso to review that situation if and when a realistic and viable funded alternative comes forward which has the relevant support from Rugby Borough Council and the other relevant authorities. We feel this is consistent with the mandate given by those attending the meeting last July. It is still our principal objective to attempt the safeguard the future of motorsports in Coventry/Rugby area thus ensuring continuation of the long and rich heritage of both speedway and stock car racing and enjoyed by thousands of race fans. We will publish the representations we make in due course thus giving an opportunity for race fans to express their support for them. |
