Warwick Lane and Greyfriars Lane

Helen, what you say about W Smith rings a bell for me. I recall my mother telling us about when they were kids, they used to play among the empty coffins when they went to see our Aunt Amy. She was a Smith, possibly related to my grandma Guy. Amy lived on the corner of Friars Road and I think was or is Cheylesmore. I recall going down past the Post Office in Greyfriars Lane down to Greyfriars Gate as was around to the left and Amy lived in the last house on the right. It’s said as you get older you remember things 70 years past but can`t remember what you did last week

This looks like a still from a film to me but a recent share on FB shows the damage to The Grapes seemingly not long after the raid when it was bombed -

Two good pics Neil Particularly as they include snippets of the older buildings bookending the chapel and Sunday School buildings. I've got some good sections of that street now, but the bit between the chapel and the junction with Greyfriars Lane is still sketchy.

Prof already added this one in post#54 but it's a fuller capture of the photograph dated 1937 including what was left on the right. Helen, was that arched doorway the remains of the Wesleyan Chapel? Where did that go to?

I think the archway was to the Sunday school but they were both demolished to make way for the Central Hall. Was that Wesleyan ? I think it was Methodist but I don't know what the differences are. (having looked it up, the Central Hall was for Wesleyan Methodists) The rest of the area of demolition became the Telegraph didn't it? With the bridge over the road.

Hi Mick. Here is Ford's from an aerial photo from June 1950. It was more or less on a T junction. Which side were you thinking of? I'll move this to a topic about the road when you've seen my reply, if you don't mind
