I never thought pysios were much cop, but my injury was dragging on and an athlete will do anything to get back running as quickly as possible. Before me being treated was a scrawny kid about 12 years old. When it wa my turn I got to talking with the physio who told me that the kid he had just treated was going to be a good athlete, a really good athlete I was sceptical, really sceptical. How could you tell I enquired,' You can tell'.. Of course the kid was Dave And again on another occasion , the patient before me was a greyhound (!). I kid you not. He?she?it had a bit of a strain. In six days time, he /she /it was running in the BBC Greyhound Derby final, in 1968, the event was a big deal. I got to talking witth the the physio. He/she/it will win , he assured me. How could you tell I enquired. 'You can tell. ' the dog did win and the physio got it right about Dave as well!!!!!!
Hi Harrier, was the physio Stan Duncombe??

I went on the Godiva tour down the Rhine Valley and ending at Lido di Jesolo, I remember a precocious kid who oozed confidence and quite probably had expectations of what was to come! Thumbs up

Ten out of ten Rob. Go to the top of the class and give the pens out. I will sort out a photo of Mick and post it.

I think it was - Duff was a nice guy and a great coach! Quite a few future greats were on that tour, including Juan and Dick Taylor and a future Sheila Carey,

I thought it might be Mick. As a kid in the mid to late sixties, I was part of his training group. I fondly remember the Birmingham League and other road and cross country races. Also, the annual trips to Merthyr Mawr training camp in South Wales. Other members of the group included Don Anderton, David Moorcroft, Paul Eales, Ray Maule and Robin Godfrey. Happy days!

Once Mick persuaded a group of his lads to take part in a 'special' weight training session. He strung them along for a couple of weeks emphasising how effective the session would be, what a difference it would make to their training and so on and so forth. No one smelled a rat... so on the appointed Saturday morning a large group turned up at his house to find a stack of garden spades and forks which Mick had borrowed from all and sundry for the lads to dig and weed his garden. Fair do's, they all set too and Mick for his part provided plenty of food and drink for all the lads. He had a talented group but when he thought he could take them no further, he passed most of them over to the nationally renowned athletic coach and 'Gladiators' compere John Anderson. Mick was also in charge of one Coventry firms' apprentices, training them for the Apprentices' Sports. He coached at least one football team.
