There is some sad news today, that former Bees rider Pete Gay has passed away in Auckland, New Zealand. He was seriously ill, having suffered severe burns in a house fire a few weeks ago, but succumbed to a chest infection in hospital yesterday. He was 81.

Thank you for this message, Pete Gay was my Dad. Dad was a Coventry kid, born and bred. He lived in Whitley and Stoke throughout his childhood. Worked in the car plants in his young adult years and of course there was his love of speedway. He started in bicycle speedway and then into the motorcycles. At 17 he went to France and he rode for the Brandon Bees and later other clubs. Coventry and speedway was in his heart to the end, we even have a Coventry bee on his memorial
