I remember cobwebs it used to be run by roz, rob and rich, then taken over by roger. I had a unit in there until we moved into the old garners pie shop, we traded as little gems antiques

Do you know what numbers these buildings are? No.140 Far Gosford Street featured in helping to link our early and late family tree. It was a messuage called "The Bishop Blaze" then.

I took some rims into the cycle centre last year for re-spoking, what they didnt tell me was they were closing. I went back a week later to find the shop empty .. It took a while to get them back and even then they had not been done. Angry Angry Angry

Behind the Moo Cow Milk Bar was a court of 6-8 houses. I lived in number 1, with my family, till I was about 4. We moved to Canley after that. I was pleased to see it had been demolished. I remember, from a later time, the big second hand shop. Loads of Army surplus. A great place to buy stuff if you were going camping.

It was a document dated 1730 about 140 Far Gosford Street which was a property called The Bishop Blaize that enabled me to link my tree to the earlier family. This document shows the inside of 142 so I wonder if it was the same. Found this other document.
142 Far Gosford St was at one time "Hits & Misses Records". Inside was very "olde worlde" with original oak beams both upstairs and downstairs. I worked there for a few years.

Back in 2012 I took this photograph of "Trench's Corner" on Far Gosford Street: The plaque clear states "Trench's Corner 1925" - I received the following comment on my photosite from Max Buch: ". . . the block of 18,19,20 and 21 Far Gosford Street is actually named French's Corner. The name plaque (centre of block) was visited by a team of Council-employed shop front 'painters' from Birmingham, which (out of remit) 'touched-up' said plaque but failed to notice the faded cross-bar of the original letter "F". Years of phone-calls and despairing letters to the Council have (Not unsurprisingly) resulted in absolutely no corrective action. Apologies for twice using the swearword 'Council' above." Last week I photographed the same location following completion of the redevelopment thereon: Walking round the other side of the building I took this photo: This is a closer view of the building: It's not the same plaque, but a representation, and it retains the name "Trench's Corner" - I have no reason to disbelieve my correspondent about the correct name, and have picked up this pre-redevelopment item from t'internet: "Trench's corner is probably a confusion of French's Corner from the times when the gate portcullis was chalice which gave rise to the slang Calais, the Sherborne the channel and the area closest to Trench's Corner known as Dover. Development on the site is well recorded and the design & access reporting on development in the last century notes the C19th dye works behind and to the north of 18-22 were demolished when the Sky Blue was constructed in the 1980's. Only 18-21 Far Gosford Street labeled 'Trench's Corner 1925' remains and the block stands alone. Originally there was a 22 but this disappeared from mapping at the same time as the Dye Works and the arrival of Sky Blue Way. 18-22 appear on the map in 1889 and clearly the brick skin with the classical entablature, scrolls and dating stone are later but it is not clear if they were in fact done in 1925- as is most likely - or if the block was known as Trench's Corner or that the artifacts were moved here for inclusion in a facading at some time in the last century.' Since the 1925 footprint a thin full width infill extension to the rear has been added and this is recorded as contemporaneous and part of the mid 1980 Sky Blue Way works. Today 18-21 is a single storey retail development totaling approx. 230sqM. with 18 and 19 occupied by a electric goods merchant and 20 and 21 a restaurant."
