Looks like it's just an 'access road' for the Council to get underneath Ringway Hill Cross. Bit daft calling it Gas Street, tbh.

NeilsYard, I was staying at the Premier Inn behind the Belgrade, when I booked an Uber I put the start from the Premier Inn but it always came up as Gas Street, it was the same on my return. I was picked up from the small car park at the side of the Premier Inn. There is a large block of rental apartments next to the Premier Inn, I think they give their address as 1 Gas Street. There is also a couple of large student blocks which come on to the car park, I would imagine the footpath starts behind them giving access to Abbotts Lane.

I can see why they didn't call Ringway Hill Cross - Ringway Gas Street. Lol Due to the massive scale of modern life we overestimate the distance between old landmarks.

Yes thanks, Gas Centre. Leigh Mills car park (or whatever it's known as now) tends to be the one I use now on the rare occasion I go into town these days. The whole area north of the ring road on the old gasworks site is about to be redeveloped - I think the idea is to make a route through down Abbotts Lane to allow it to flow onto Radford Road.

NeilsYard Gas Street appears to run along the multi storey car park behind the Belgrade, and leads to the Gate House pub.

On 27th Jan 2022 6:18pm, mickboho said: Yes, next door Laxons, opposite entrance to the gas works, the Sherbourne ran alongside the garden. Lots of bombed out buildings to play in. Didn't realise what they were until later.
Do you remember the bowling green in the Gas Board Depot? It was always kept in excellent condition by the groundsman, we were allowed to use it during our lunch hour.

My grand parents were licensees of the Gas Tavern after the second world war, 1940's/50's. I think they were Frank and Lizzie Jackson. Does anyone know anything of them?

Hi Robert, welcome to the forum Wave Not much, but there is this link to the pub section. It seems like they were there from 1911.

Looking through the newspaper archives, Robert, your Grandfather Norman Jackson also ran several clubs in Coventry.
