Line 5 in the left hand column is incorrect, you have counted the '1's' incorrectly/twice Line 8 in the left hand column is also wrong since there are five '1's in Line 7 and after that it's just chaos The correct answer is as Line 5 in the right hand column.

The left hand column is that shown earlier by Slim, the right hand column is my effort - I'm surprised that they come back to the same answer!

Perhaps Slim should buy a Lottery ticket

Amazing. I miscounted twice in the left hand column but still got the correct answer by line 11, exactly the same number of lines for the error-free solution. It seems I've therefore got the correct final answer by default 3 times, for in my second attempt, i.e. the right hand column, I misread (my scribble is not very legible, even to me) a 4 as a 1. Consequently I carried on abortively for another 12 lines, which still got me the right answer. Counting all these digits is doing my eyes in! Strictly speaking, it could be argued that all the "answers" presented so far are wrong. It should go: 5 0102030415 402112131415 105122131415 and so on, because if we're going to start introducing and counting positive integers like 1 on the second line, for completeness, we should count zero when there are none of them, so on the second line above, there are, in words, zero ones, zero twos, zero threes etc. Zero might not be a positive integer, but it's an integer nonetheless, and deserves recognition and respect. Food for thought/discussion.

To avoid eye strain and brain strain, this sort of mundane exercise should be done by computer. Time was when I would have written code to do it, out of interest. But I'm too old now.

Well done Slim... one of the properties [designed for another purpose] was that the process was self correcting!!! Now designing a programme to cope with this process is not quite as easy as at first might seem... for one major reason. And the next problem is to start with "twenty two" and see where that takes you!!! Try other numbers to find what anomalies can crop up and how they fit in with Type A and Type B, the latter of course may be considered to be related to the former.

Sorry Slim, I never answered your zero question. A couple of points... This is 'Fun Time' to give a bit of entertainment in these worrying times in which we are living. Nothing more, nothing less. We don't want to go too heavy otherwise members will be put off. All we are doing is setting off with whatever number we want. Period. If you want to go further, you could set off with '0' as your first digit. Try it and after a dozen lines you will be losing the will to live and be missing the point of the exercise... to have a bit of light hearted fun. You could also start with '10'... that's my little joke!!! Zero does come along after a while, but it does not add to the entertainment value of what I was trying to do... entertain members. You could try your date of birth...

Given so much time at home I've completed all the jigsaws, I think. Enjoyed them very much so 'Thank You' to all contributors. I would really appreciate some more, the more difficult the better. Brilliant way to pass an hour while my wife enjoys the soaps. Thanks everyone.

Hi MR. I have enjoyed doing your jigsaws over the past couple of years but on the last two occasions when I've tried to start one I can't seem to get the individual pieces to move upwards into the blank space. The whole thing moves up! What am I suddenly doing wrong? Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, I've just tried out a jigsaw on my PC, and it seems to be working. Are you on a phone or tablet, or something different to what you've previously used? If anyone else on here has experience of either of those, perhaps they can let us know if it's possible to do a jigsaw on a small touch-screen device? I hope someone can advise Rosemary - there are some smashing pictures on there to enjoy!

Just tried a few pieces on my ipad and that is OK

I've just tried several on my iPad Air for the first time and none of them work. Fine as usual on my laptop.
