The Coventry Telegraph have announced the latest proposals for our Guildhall. The only good thing I can see is for the medieval kitchen to be restored, but the originally planned rooftop bar (which was bad enough) is now to be dropped in favour of a bar in the Armoury (the large room upstairs behind the Minstrel's Gallery). Access to this will be via a spiral staircase in the Great Hall!!! As if that wouldn't be incongruous enough, it's hardly wheelchair friendly either - something I thought was particularly important nowadays? But of course, our Coventry Society's objections are being ignored, as usual. Some democracy we live in!

I can't help thinking that they're pricing the Coventry buildings out of the market. They may be able to justify it for a while due to novelty value but Coventry isn't a natural tourist destination.

I feel so sad that it is so expensive to visit this beautiful place. I will just keep my memories of having afternoon tea there on occasions and watching the little mouse run back and forth. I doubt that many tourists will be prepared to pay the price, Very sad. Hope you are all surviving the heat. Keep calm and carry on. I heard that people were putting their socks in the fridge Oh my I do hope they are clean ones. Gilly Wave From a cold old wintery Melbourne.

I shall be staying the night before so I can delay my departure for a bit. I know it's an odd day for you folks so no worries if you can't make it. Wave I'm also planning to have an amble round St Mary's Hall afterwards... although it is half term, so I may regret that decision.

It's quite pricey for us 'youngsters' but some of the other forumites would get a discount. Wink

I have a GoCV card as a citizen, so get a discount. I think that makes it £3.50. You should be an honorary member, Helen!

Been going in there for over 65 years, can’t see any justification for paying to get in now 🧐

I want to see the restorations. The kitchen looks good. I'm going to make myself a collection of the best early images to compare the rooms with.
