Thanks Tricia Smile - it's just a quick Microsoft Paint drawing I did when I was bored - just thought it would be good to have a close up sketch of the shops as it is difficult to see at the angle this photo was taken.

More memories - further down the street, the other side of Brandish's, was a driving school, The Belvedere, where I learnt to drive. The last shop in the row was a general store run by Mrs Maisy West, she became my mother in law. By the time this picture was taken she had long sold up. Smile Smile

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious but why is it called "The Butts Grill" when it is nowhere either Summerlands Butts or Barkers Butts?

No idea about this one, but in medieval times a butt was a field for archery.

I think Butt was the owner's family name -(It was owned by Mr Butt). Apparently after leaving the shop there, they moved and reopened further down Lower Ford Street.

Ah thanks Garlands Thumbs up I thought perhaps it might have originated in the Butts and later moved to Lower Ford Street.

An up-to-date equivalent view of the 1986 image Thumbs up I am SO glad that I took this photo, as if anyone asks me for directions to the "Finger Licking Kitchen and Jerk Centre" I shall know where to send them Wink - it's the new name for "The Butts Grill".

Hi Midland Red Wave , Quite a bit of change over 30 years, until sometime last year Tony's Chip shop was still there (where the Chilli Fried Chicken shop is now, next to the Newsagents). Thumbs up

Hello There was an antiques shop in Lower Ford St, probably until the late 60's. We think it was "Roberts Antiques", but wondered if there was a photo or memory of the shop and/or its proprietor, Henry or Harry, who is a family member we are trying to get more information on. Apparently there was another antiques shop at one point in Primrose Hill St that was merged leaving the Lower Ford St shop. Thanks!

Thanks to Anne Hewitt on the Coventrians FB page. I think this is the first colour photo I have seen of Godiva Street in its last days in 1966.
