Correct. Joe Brown married Vicki Haseman. She died in 1992. Marty Wilde married Joyce Baker, they are the parents of Kim Wilde.
The Vernons Girls were a large ensemble, 16 of them, originally. They had little success until reducing to a smaller group, but still had only limited chart success here, four minor hits. They disbanded in 1964, although some were session singers on Decca hits of the 60s. |

Hi Philip, I have loads of The Jimmy Clitheroe shows on an Mp3 disc, which can be easily downloaded onto your computer/laptop or onto a memory card. That's what I've done, & play it in my car. I've also "Round the Horne shows" too. If you want them for free, let me know & you can email me your address, & I'll let you have the disc. He had us all in stitches (pun)

Hi all  & thank you Doug.
I will be in touch. I am a fan of radio 4+, which was radio 7. Like you, I must have had a very happy childhood to like the sights & sounds of our growing up era. My all-in-one pc with it's own speakers has playlists of so many programmes of this period. Pam & I often start waltzing around to music whilst we work in a morning.

Morning all,
Does anyone remember Les Ross on Xtra Am? His breakfast show and 'Round the World Phone calls' on a Sunday were so entertaining. I thought he was a brilliant broadcaster. I know his shows were broadcast from Birmingham, but he made them sound so local. When he left Xtra am it was front page news in the Coventry Telegraph, as so many fans were disappointed. The listening figures dropped dramatically on Xtra Am and they went off air. I used to listen to him occasionally on Saga, but he was never the same.
I listen to Radio Two now but I do miss the local news.
Have a good Thursday everyone. I won't mention the weather!! |

She died in 1991.
Vicki Brown and Joe Brown are the parents of singer Sam Brown, who recorded a 'concept' about her mother called 43 minutes. It's very different to her pop album and didn't sell as well, but I think it's brilliant.
Vicki Brown went on to perform backing vocals (both live and in the studio) for a number of acts such as Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, and Barclay James Harvest.

I would like to follow up the Wilfred Pickles story if I may, I seem to remember that that the pianist for "Have a Go" was Violet Carson who eventually became Mrs. Sharples, in Coronation St.,
Mabel I think did pay out the winnings though. Jim. Walton

Just saw the episode of torchie the battery boy, that brought back some long ago memories. Do you remember the Bumblies from 1954, it was created by Michael Bentine who went on to produce one of the best shows ever made called Its a Square World, genius!! There was also the Goon Show, Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe, Spike Milligan. Going to radio, remember Beyond Our Ken, with Hattie Jacques, Eric Sykes, Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Horne, June Whitfield really funny stuff.
