Although it says 1942 Carvells placed an ad in the Telegraph saying there were moving from 189 Radford Road to 87 Radford Road opposite the Grapes on 22nd March 1943! There used to be a sweet shop next door where I used to go and buy Kali or other sweets to take back to school after lunchtime!

Bohica, Happened a number of times. In 1947 I shot a wild dog, not just one rifle bullet, but a full magazine bren gun. I fully expected it would be a human being but the searchlight told us different. I had to explain my action, but was fully understood and approved. A noise in the wire surround of our camp thought to be a terrorist attack in an hostile environment. It was no less a threat in wartime Britain, the Home Guard had a vital role to play, to keep us safe in our beds from such an attack. Yes we can laugh at our selves afterwards, as Brits always did, but crisis needs action. I believe the Home Guard had influence on the happenings of the war? But that's another story.
