Hello Midland Red, so you think it was the Orchid ballroom, that's one I didn't think of! As I live in London & I was 18 then, it's a long time to remember. I've still got family in Coventry, not many left now though. I grew up in Coventry, went to Broad Street School, is it still there? I guess the Orchid ballroom isn't & I am still trying to find out about Saturday morning Joe Loss, I used to go every week.

The dance hall was called the Majestic when it first opened, it later changed to the Orchid.

I think I only went to The Orchid once and saw Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames before they were well known. It would probably be about 1967.

Mum was still playing bingo at the Rialto until about 6 years ago. I think it is now a furniture showroom.

The Flying Club at Baginton was a decent venue as well, am sure I recall them having all nighters even in the early 60's.

Apologies for the late notice, I just found this myself, Pete Waterman has a program on BBC Cov & Warks today 12 to 2 talking about his DJ days at the Locarno. It's repeated New Years Eve at 9pm if you miss it.

I also went to the MAJESTIC later ORCHID ROOMS, that was in the late 50s and I do remember the singer.

La Bamba was a great place to be in the 60s, but not if Celtic had been playing Rangers that Saturday.
