Hi did anyone go to Frederick Bird School when Mr Kent was the head teacher? I left school about 1975. Would love to hear from anyone who might have been at school in the same year as me. Smile

Are you talking about the juniors or seniors?

Hi everyone. I went to all three of Frederick Bird schools but the only thing I can remember because of my age is a few of the teachers in the seniors. I left in 1971 at the age of 14. Does anyone remember Mr Clennet, Mr Cusworth, Mr Harris, Mr Watkins, Mr Douglas, Miss Brown, Penny Bishop (now she was hot). I know there was a lot more but for the life of me I can't remember but these teachers that I do remember gave me a hard time but I did deserve it I guess, after all I was a bad lad.

Yes she was Yasmeen and she still plays the piano. We came across each other when we were doing our Yardley family tree a few years ago. In fact I have just had a very nice couple of hours with her over a pot of tea at Astley Book Farm.

Hi Folks. Yes, I well remember (Dougie) Mr. Douglas, who taught technical Drawing and Maths, or Cricket practice. If you were good at any of those subjects,(which I wasn't), you were probably safe with him, but he was feared by all for sure. To get the cane from him was to put the fear of God in you, and I'm sure that many Schoolboys blood ran cold whilst waiting outside his room for punishment. I remember him giving us Boys some football tickets to sell for a Highfield road boys match sometime in the early 60's, and I lost mine. Well, I was worried sick he would "Go Mad at me." or punish me in some way. I tearfully asked my Mum if she would go up the School & explain my predicament.Which she did, & he was fine about it. My Brother only recently told me how Mr. Douglas used to live in Ebro close at the top end of Binley Road, till his Death some years ago. I wish I'd known, as I would have gone to his house & told him just how fearful he made us Schoolboys feel in those long gone days. I was at Freddie Birds till 1965. I could not wait to leave, but strangely, I would have loved to have walked around it once more before they pulled it down. My Christian name is Douglas, but that didn't help in my dealings with Mr. Douglas.

I well remember Cliff Barnes and certainly Hazel Davies was the subject of many young "Freddie" boys fantasies, certainly mine. Brenda Thompson too was another girl in the early 60's who us Freddy boys liked but I was too shy to say so back then. Made up for it since though.

I went there from 56-60 and the only teacher I can remember was a Mr Wild (a Welshman) who I adored and had as my teacher for 2 consecutive years. I can't remember the names of any of the other teachers or the Head, unless it was a Mr Lewis? Can anyone recall any more facts of interest.
Hi Coventry 49. Yes, I remember Mr. Wild. Mr Lewis too. I remember out music teacher, a lady with well proportioned assets, who I used to have a massive crush on. I was only 10 but started young. lol.

Hi to Dave Owens of California. firstly I envy you living in California and not here. I have been to America twice to stay with friends, both in Georgia & Reno. I love the Country and could have moved there to live with a lady in Reno who took a fancy to me. I play on a game site called "Just Words" and chat to the other players who mostly live in the good old USA. Anyway, I am the same Doug Wesley as on your list. (Thanks for compiling it.) I am 67 now but still pretty fit & well apart from the odd complaints. I remember many of those boys as if it were yesterday, who were my friends like Barry Alldrick. (I lived 3 doors away from Barry's Barber shop.) Don Beamont, (who I believe died not so long ago) Graham Chambers. Cliff Barnes. Jimmy Galloway. John Hewitt. Hazel Davies.(Corrrr.) Anne Wale. Lavinia Williams.(I really liked her & was a best friend with her Brother Andrew, who is still going as far as I know. Saw him about 5 yrs ago. Here are a few other names you may recall: David Cambell. Clifford Cox. Steve Baguley, (who used to work at The Royal Mail in Bishop street before demolition, like me.) Brian & Barry Bird. John Dutton, (who hanged himself many years ago.)& finally Keith Weston. I would remember more Dave if I stopped & thought. Please Email me anytime you feel like it Dave.I'd love to hear from you. my email address is: dougandchummy@hotmail.com. Sorry I not responded sooner but not been on this site for ages. Take care old Buddy.

Hi. Barry Aldrick was a best friend of mine too from when we were tiny & in short trousers. I lived at 104 King Edward Road, just 3 doors away from Barry. I bumped into him and his wife a few yrs back and he was saying his Mom was very old now and not well. Whether she is still with us now I don't know. His Dad, Joe Alldrick was a nice guy. There were a lot of lovely people living in King Edward Road back then; professional people too. Now I think a lot of Coventry is just awful, litter everywhere. I clean it up every night where I live in Wyken.
