Hi Does any one remember Maryon Wendy Fry who spent time in St Faith's 68-69. I was adopted from there in January 69 and I'm trying to trace her. Thanks

I was at St Faith's from October 1964 until February 1965. I had a baby boy in Dec. I was one of the lucky ones as I kept my baby, it was not easy though, no help from the government in those days. I remember the beautiful old house, Miss Patton and another lady whose name escapes me, she was very caring. Days were hard as we had jobs to do ie scrubbing the floors and general cleaning. I also remember the little chapel at the bottom of the garden where we had to go as this was a Church of England society home. I was there for approx 5 months and made friends with Margaret ***, Rosemary ***, Barbara ***, and another Barbara who all unfortunately had their babies adopted. I visited a couple of times during the following 2 years but have not been back since, it was a very hard time then, not accepted by society as it is now. I often wonder what happened to the other "inmates" and hope their lives turned out ok. Carole Barber

I know this is old, but would be interested in any more info on St Faith's or Paton's records. My mother was born there in late 1940's and eventually found/met her mother - she's a bit of a genealogy-pro now - but details were sketchy before the birth mother died. Would be interested to know the adoption process then and how my grandparents (adoptive) would have interacted with the home.

Hi everyone Thank you for letting me join Smile I have known for many years, that my mum was sent to what she called a "mother and daughter home" to give birth to a boy, that she was forced by her parents to give away, because she was 17 and unmarried. This was back in 1964. Only recently my sister and I found out that it was St. Faith's shelter. We know this, because the boy who was given away has just turned up and contacted his two half-sisters and uncle Smile. Unfortunately his (our) mum died 14 years ago. This is also one of the reasons, why we have found it hard to get hold of the details about the stay in St. Faith's. I would really like to know more about what it was like there. Was there any emotional support for the mothers? How were the children taken away? How long did the girls usually stay there? I was wondering if there are someone who has written down their memories of their experiences and also of there are any available records about the place, their values and regulations. Lyngood, thank you so much for sharing your story. I would be grateful to know more. You are very welcome to write me privately. All the best Wave

Hello all. I was adopted from St Faith's in 1976. My birth mother's name was Anna. I was wondering if anyone was there at the time that remembers her or how to contact her. I have been trying to search for many years now for her. Her last name at the time should have been Kinsey and maiden name was Brunt. Jennifer
